About the flag
An eighth star was added in 2006, following Simón Bolívar’s wish to honour the province of Guayana alongside the original seven provinces.
How to spot it: Equal yellow, blue and red bands with an arc of eight white stars in the blue; Colombia and Ecuador have a double-height yellow band.
