About the flag
Il Tricolore was inspired by the French flag, arriving with Napoleon’s armies in the 1790s, with green replacing blue. It later became the banner of Italian unification.
How to spot it: Vertical green-white-red with no emblem; Mexico adds an eagle in the centre and Ireland uses orange instead of red.
