About the flag
Designed in 1971 by a 15-year-old schoolgirl, Susan Karike, it shows a golden bird-of-paradise and the Southern Cross.
How to spot it: Split diagonally: red upper fly with a yellow bird-of-paradise, and black lower hoist with five white stars of the Southern Cross.
